PERTH man Ian Usher will discover on Sunday whether his old life is worth the $500,000 he hopes will allow him to start a new one.
If it isn’t, he says there’ll be egg on his face. Mr Usher, 44, from the southern suburb of Wellard, has decided to auction his entire life on eBay, wanting to retain only his passport, wallet and the clothes on his back.
What he has, he is trying to sell in one big package.
It goes to internet auction on Sunday, allowing the highest bidder to claim what Mr Usher describes as a pre-packaged life.
On the list is a $420,000 house, his hobbies, his job, and even his friends, who have agreed to be introduced to the buyer.
Mr Usher says he is nervous about the auction. “I hope it all goes well and I don’t end up with egg on my face and no buyers at all,” he told AAP yesterday.
He said his ex-wife Laura had been the inspiration for the auction. Following their separation two-and-a-half years ago, six years after they had emigrated from Britain, he said he had been nursing a broken heart and needed to move on. Selling everything was the most logical answer, he said. “The separation from my wife was the initial trigger for what I’m doing, especially living in the house that was built for the both of us and being surrounded by our furniture,” Mr Usher said. “It’s part of the moving on process. I guess this is the last step before making a fresh start.”
The auction had nothing to do with avenging the loss of his wife of five years. “It’s more a factor of looking forward into a positive future instead of looking back in regret,” he said.
Mmmmm….Iemand interesse? Perth is maar drie uur van Margaret River vandaan!
